Zip Clock, like TimeForge, is a cloud-based, business management solution with a team of modules working together to share information. When combined with operational data, Zip Clock is a labor management powerhouse that increases efficiency in the workforce and encourages employee accountability.
TimeForge is one of parent company Truno’s many business solutions and because of that, the TimeForge time clock only includes the very basic features of a time clock. Zip Clock has a major advantage in the employee time and attendance management industry. Using real-time visual indicators, notifications, and warnings, the Zip Clock time clock dashboard helps keep employees compliant with labor laws. Employees can take an active rather than passive approach to managing their time and being more accountable of violations and overtime hours. TimeForge has very few and limited features, while Zip Clock lets users take their time clock on the go. Clocking in via mobile is possible through location restraint with Zip Clock, making it much easier for employees to start and end their day.

Many business owners and managers may be unaware of how much labor law violations could be costing them. These are serious infractions to a workplace and the penalties could be very costly. TimeForge’s time clock meets the basic requirements for time and attendance; including a mobile app, time entry, and hour tracking. Zip Clock’s dashboard offers an extensive variety of useful information such as visual indicators, notifications, and warnings that help managers and employees actively manage their time. TimeForge only offers a real-time overview of labor costs and tracked hours.
The ability to prevent labor laws with a time clock is a benefit that many businesses and organizations may have not known about until now. Violations like these can happen when managers do not have the bandwidth to stay accountable of employee breaks and OT hours in addition to the work they already have. Zip Clock does the tedious work for them, reducing the amount of time managers have to spend in the office, while TimeForge lacks the ability to track and notify labor law compliance in real-time.
The key to keeping employees compliant with labor laws lay within Zip Clock’s time clock dashboard. Employees are able to actively manage their time and be more accountable of their breaks and overtime hours. The dashboard will indicate which employees are missing, on break, or are close to breaching a labor law. This will cut down “babysitting” time, allowing managers to have more time to be on the floor with customer and manage employees more effectively, improving customer service and reducing turnover. It also includes configuration features for ACA (Affordable Care Act), projected, daily, and weekly overtime, break and clock out suggestions, and minimum time off between shifts. Managers can take action when needed through the web or mobile app, saving time and allowing them to focus on tasks that require attention. Zip Clock allows users to be proactive rather than reactive to changing conditions.
The gamification features and animations on the Zip Clock dashboard are easy to understand and ensure that managers and employees have visibility to staying accountable for their time. It motivates employees to self-police each other and encourages a positive change in the way employees manage their time and attendance. Staying compliant with labor laws is as easy and simple as the green smiley face employees receive for being responsible with their time.
Both Zip Clock and TimeForge offer the basic solutions for a time and attendance management application such as clocking in and out, configurations to ensure labor requirements, and a mobile app. While these are essential to keeping track of employee time, the usability and effectiveness of the software is what sets Zip Clock apart from Time Forge.
The web and mobile dashboard on Zip Clock presents insightful and easy to understand information that allows both managers and employees to actively manage their time. TimeForge offers two time clocks, a larger touchscreen LCD display and a smaller display screen with audio visual indications for acceptance and rejections of fingerprints. There is no information or visual warning notifying of upcoming labor law violations. In fact, break enforcement is only available when paired with the TimeForge scheduling software, which is separate from the time clock. Zip Clock has the option for managers and supervisors to send notifications and reminders to all employee types.
Zip Clock’s software visibility increases transparency and is best illustrated in its Shift Management screen. This displays all employees and lists their weekly hours, projected hours, overtime, ACA violations, and phone numbers. Clicking on an employee’s name shows their remaining scheduled hours for the week, allowing management to remain in control of their weekly schedules. In addition, Shift Management also keeps track of employee hours while they are on the clock and gives the option for management to suggest breaks and clout outs when the employee is nearing violations.
Although TimeForge lets managers set grace periods and schedule staff breaks to ensure compliance with local labor requirements, they have no way of showing their employees where they stand. There are no visuals as to when they’re allowed to clock in and within what time frame. Zip Clock can track actual break times and will tell users information in real-time whereas TimeForge will only tell users whether or not their punch was accepted.
Managing a team requires keeping employees accountable for when they punch in and out everyday and this could become a dull and tedious task over time. This can be made easy with Zip Clock’s Punch Management. Managers can instantly access attendance information through Zip Clock’s system online in real time from any location. They will be able to see the status of their employees whether they are running late, clocked in, or putting in overtime all from their phone or computer. This allows managers and employees to update or make edits to their punches when they can. TimeForge only allows managers to view the information, but cannot take action for them.
TimeForge is a great tool for a small business not looking for anything too complicated. They offer simplistic sales monitoring, attendance verification, and schedule modifications that can be done from anywhere using their cloud-based software. However, Zip Clock caters to businesses of all sizes, small or large. Most employees do not come all at once, some early and some late. With Zip Clock, employees are accountable for their own time and managers can be involved in the case that someone forgets.
Zip Clock’s Punch Management lets managers easily add time punches for their employees when they forget to clock in or out for a shift. If enabled as an option, employees can also add their own punches from the mobile app and have it acknowledged and approved by managers. Punches made outside of normal, auto-approved conditions will need approval from managers as well. Managers no longer need to make a mental or physical note to make changes later, it can be done instantly through the mobile app or desktop. When employees make edits to their time punches, authorization is required from management so that all punches are approved and audited before being sent to payroll.
At Hubworks, we understand that sometimes employees can be forgetful and go right to work, or they leave and forget to punch out. It happens, and that is why Punch Management gives managers the ability to edit these punches. Zip Clock can also be set up to allow employees to edit previous punches within the current payroll period, subject to manager approval. Punch Management also keeps management responsible and in control of how many labor hours are being put in per employee and for the organization in order to avoid any labor law violations.
